Independent Learning
Before the start of an Instructor
Development Course (IDC), Assistant Instructor (AI) or Open Water Scuba
Instructor Program (OWSI) you must have completed all 16 IDC Knowledge
Reviews in your Instructor candidate workbook.
These are best accomplished by self-study using the PADI Instructor Manual, Business of Diving, Law and the Diving Professional, Best of the Undersea Journal and the Instructor Candidate Workbook.
Although not a prerequisite you should ensure that you have revised your dive theory. *No time is scheduled during the Instructor development process to cover the theory subjects i.e. Physics, Physiology, RDP, Skills and Environment and Equipment.
We strongly suggest that you spend time working on these using the Diving Knowledge workbook, Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving and the Divemaster Exams.
*If you require additional assistance in these subjects your GO-Dive Course coordinator will discuss & schedule time during the evenings.

Speciality Instructor programs
Increase the variety of courses that you can conduct (and earn more!). These programs & prices are available to ALL PADI Instructors.
Once completing your Open Water Scuba Instructor Course you will be wondering where to go next or how you can improve your teaching abilities further to stay at the forefront of your diving career.
We offer a full range of PADI Instructor Speciality Courses to help master and teach diving in many different subject areas such as EANx Instructor, Wreck Instructor or Semi-Closed Rebreather Instructor. Once achieving at least five specialty Instructor ratings along with 25 student certifications you can consider becoming a Master Scuba Diver Trainer adding even more skills and stature to your diving CV.
Without a doubt, being able to teach a wide range of specialties will make you much more employable and profitable so ensure you take advantage of the IDC packages to obtain your specialities directly after your IDC.
These courses are available as a package of 5 speciality instructor courses as a MSDT Prep programme or individually. The MSDT Prep runs over 3 days, and includes the dives, knowledge development and marketing information. Completing the courses with a PADI Course Director will allow you to teach the Specialities immediately rather than building up certifications first.
Prices: MSDT Prep is £370, or £100 per PADI Speciality Instructor rating Call for further details.

As with all PADI programs the AI, OWSI
and IDC are performance based. However, they have the following minimum
times:
* An IDC is a minimum
of 7 days
* An AI course is a
minimum of 3 days
* An OWSI program is
a minimum of 4 days
Some programs are run evenings and weekends, minimizing the amount of time you need to take off work. However, most candidates find it more beneficial to concentrate on the programs without distractions.
Over the 7 days you will attend 20 presentations from your PADI Course Director & GO-Dive IDC staff.
You will also learn how to prepare and
present
* Knowledge
development sessions for all PADI courses and present at least four presentations
scoring 3.5 or higher on at least one presentation.
* Confined
water teaching presentations and present at least four confined water presentations
scoring 3.4 or higher on at least one presentation.
* Open
water teaching presentations and present at least two presentations (two
skills in each) and score 3.5 or higher.
You must also
* Demonstrate
competence at performing all 20 dive skills listed on the Skill Evaluation
slate.
Candidates must score a minimum of 68 points in total with no score below
3. (This is the same as the Divemaster skill circuit ).
* Score
75% or higher on all five sections of the Instructor preassessment exam
* Perform
a face down snorkel/fin swim non stop for 800 metres.
All this in only 7 days - it’s easy but requires your total commitment to the course. We Guarantee you will receive our total commitment throughout the course to ensure you success as a PADI Instructor.
The Scoring system – The whole process
is very open & nothing is hidden.
You are supplied with a copy of the evaluation
(scoring) sheets that the course director & staff use to evaluate your
performance, these are the same as the PADI Instructors Examiners use during
the IE.
Knowledge, confined water &
openwater teaching presentations are scored on a 1 to 5 basis. Performance
of in water skills is scored on a 1 to 5 basis and exams you need to score
75%.
Nothing is hidden and you can even plead
/ discuss / argue with us if you think we have been unfair.

PADI Instructor Development Courses (IDC’s)
focus on preparing those who already possess instructor-level dive theory,
role model watermanship and rescue skills and leadership abilities with
additional training that allows them to implement the PADI system in confined
water, classroom and open water environments throughout the world.
The IDC also helps candidates gain a complete understanding of PADI’s educational goals and philosophies.
Your success in instructor programs is
influenced greatly by your preparation prior to the start of the program.
This includes both independent learning and theory revision. This pre-study
allows you to start the course immediately by understanding the basic standards,
which means that classroom time is spent learning how to apply standards,
applying prescriptive teaching techniques and learning how to successfully
teach PADI courses.
You will have high and low points during
the course, you may even score a 1 on a presentation, but remember that
these courses are developmental and we will work with you to help you over
any hurdles that you have.
We have all gone through the
same process and we do know what it’s like.
While we try and ensure that the programs are low stress you will have an Instructor Exam (IE) at the end of the process. Therefore we will endeavour to make sure everything runs smoothly and on time. To do that you will receive a schedule and assignments at the start of the course, please read these and note what is going to happen over the next day or two. We rely on you to complete any assignments prior to their delivery, if you need help ask for it. Formal training usually runs morning to late afternoon, staff are available after that for any assistance you ask for.
